I'm In The Newspaper

My article in today's Deseret News is about the insane clown posse that is my family at church. You can read it here.

  2. Great article. It's exactly what Sundays are like for my family. My handicapped 9 year old son Kyle doesn't like leaving the house any day let alone Sunday. It's a battle every day to get him to go to school and when the weekend rolls around we're so tired. The fact that my 4 and 2 year olds rarely sleep through the whole night in their own beds makes things worse, and my 4 year old doesn't really like church either right now. I have to go to his class with him or he will freak out until I show up. As for Kyle, he just doesn't understand what is going on and gets bored out of his mind. He needs 1 on 1 attention in order to learn so the traditional classes just don't work for him. He'd rather be at home in his pajamas playing with toys, video games or watching movies. We love him but we are tired. It's nice to know we're not the only ones going through this daily battle. Keep up the good work!

I also just read your article in the Deseret News and had to check the author's name because at first I thought it could have been written by my dear daughter who has two autistic sons and has been going through identical struggles! I immediately sent her a link to the article and just heard back from her. She says you must be twins - separated at birth! (I was there so I can testify that is not the case, at least physically!) Maybe spiritually! She is also a writer. I'm believe the Lord gave you amazing women with these difficult challenges, the extraordinary ability to write of your experiences so eloquently and honestly (and still with humor;) because so many others are in need of your insight, spiritual strength, and encouragement.
There was a death in her husband's family yesterday (which is also complicated by a distance of 2,000 miles, and having two special needs children, as you can imagine.) When things settle down a bit, I'm sure she will be in touch with you. I will be following you as well. Thank you for sharing your story. May the Lord bless you and your family.

  4. My daughter Emily also has a blog...as a writer and a mother of special needs children, you might enjoy reading hers as well! Here is the link: http://myadventuresinautismland.blogspot.com/2013/11/welcome-to-autismland.html

  6. I've read the story and I can fully agree. I am second counselor of the president in our branch and dad of two boys with autism and sitting in the front and often see how my kids behave and my wife is alone with her efforts to control those two... Well, let me say I feel exactly what you are describing, but I also enjoy the love of the other members of our branch, even when our kids are saying loud things as "oh no, sister xxx again, she talks to long..." etc...
You have all my sympathy and I'll share your story with our branch.
